200 cycle for good cause

AROUND 200 cyclists took part in the Varsity Cycle 5.0 yesterday to mark the 45th birthday celebration of His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, and Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) and Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB).

Jointly organised by UBD, UNISSA and UTB, the charity cycling expedition was flagged off by Acting Vice-Chancellor of UTB Dr Hajah Noor Maya binti Haji Md Salleh.

Vice-Chancellor of UBD Datin Dr Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz and Rector of UNISSA Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal also participated in the expedition.

Starting from the UTB entra-nce, the participants cycled along a 45km route covering the Muara-Tutong Highway, the Tungku Link and the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Highway, headed towards the Royal Brunei Recreation Club for the 15km pitstop.

The journey continued towards the Lambak Kanan flyover, before merging onto Muara-Tutong Highway towards The Empire Hotel & Country Club, before finishing at UBD’s Faculty of Integrated Technologies Building.

The Varsity Cycle 5.0 is a donation drive for the Brunei Down Syndrome Association (ABLE).
