Brunei Darussalam recorded 187 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, bringing the national tally of confirmed cases to 11,047, Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar said during the daily press conference yesterday.
Thirty new cases have been recorded in 12 of the existing active clusters comprising those who were previously close contacts with several positive cases. One new cluster was detected containing three new cases.
A total of 154 new cases are still being investigated to determine the source of the infection.
Two clusters have been closed after no new cases were found for 28 days. They are Cluster 4401 and Cluster 4772, making the total number of active clusters at 169.
Meanwhile, 197 cases have recovered yesterday, bringing the total number of recovered cases in the Sultanate to 8,242, while the total number of active cases is 2,728.
However, among the cases being treated at the National Isolation Centre, the minister said, “Five cases are in Category 5 and currently treated at the intensive care unit. All of them require assistance of artificial ventilation with two cases requiring the help of additional heart-lung machine (ECMO).
“Thirty cases are categorised in Category 4, requiring oxygen assistance and close monitoring.”
In the past 24 hours, 2,872 samples have been tested for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, bringing the total number of laboratory tests conducted since January 2020 to 444,925.
Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman also attended the press conference.
