The presentation of letters of appointment to Sunnat Tarawih imams was held yesterday at Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kampong Kiarong, attended by Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim.

One hundred and eighty imams have been appointed comprising 28 mosque officers, 22 teaching staff and 130 students and former students of Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB).

The newly-appointed imams will be given a theoretical and practical briefing on Aqwal wa Af’aal Terawih prayer and the correct way of carrying out their duties as imams including the recitation, tuma’ninah and pacing in prayers.

The objective of the appointment is to allow for revision and strengthening of memorisation through working as an imam.

It is hoped that the new imams will draw more participation in the prayer, a step for locals to glorify the mosque in the coming month of Ramadhan.
