A TOTAL of 170 people voted for the only nominated village head of Landless Indigenous Citizens Housing Scheme (STKRJ) Sungai Buloh (Bukit Sibanging) during the voting and selection ceremony recently.
The ceremony at Kampong Sungai Buloh (Bukit Sibanging) of Mukim Mentiri saw 132 out of 170 people comprising residents of the village agreeing on the only nominated village head.
The nominated village head was Hamidun bin Mohd Daud, 45, working at the Ministry of Defence and has lived in STKRJ Sungai Buloh (Bukit Sibanging) for seven years.
During the ceremony, Misle bin Haji Abdul Karim, Brunei-Muara District Officer emphasised that the event was an opportunity for residents to vote and choose the best village head.
He explained that the election will determine the future of the village, especially in terms of welfare of the people.The village head should also have a better character and the ability to be a leader and must be trustworthy, fair, patient and forgiving.
To achieve the vision to develop the village, the leader and residents should cooperate to instil unity and harmony in the community, and be aware of the well-being and welfare of the village, he added.
The Brunei-Muara District Office found that only one person nominated met the new requirements of Brunei Darussalam Mukim Penghulu and Village Head Services Scheme 2013 after the assessment and evaluation was carried out by the department.
Among the requirements to be village head are having at least two GCE O-Level and aged between 45-55.
