17 learn Turkish language

The Embassy of Turkey in Brunei Darussalam held the first term of its long-awaited Turkish language course at its chancery on Friday.

Due to popular demand, the diplomatic mission teamed up with Yunus Emre Institute in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to bring about more opportunities to access and learn the Turkish language and arts.

Some 17 students were welcomed by Ambassador of Turkey to Brunei Darussalam Professor Dr Hamit Ersoy, who shared some of the efforts taken to realise the course. “We had received many requests to hold more language courses which, I myself, was surprised but also moved by the demand,” he said.

He added, “We wanted to fulfil this demand naturally, and we finally found a suitable and willing volunteer to teach the class.”

Asked if there will be new terms or advanced classes in the future, the ambassador said, “We are determined to meet all the expectations of our Bruneian brothers and sisters as long as I am here in Brunei.”
