A total of 165 companies and 30 individuals were issued with compound fines for offences under the Minor Offences Act, Chapter 30 which was revealed in the 2020 statistics by the Licensing and Enforcement Division, Brunei-Muara District Office yesterday. Most offences involved disposing garbage in non-allocated areas.
The statistics also showed a 23-per-cent increase in compound fines issued from 2019 of 158 compound fines issued. The Brunei-Muara District Office reminded the public to observe the social responsibility of maintaining cleanliness of the public spaces and business premises.
Offenders are liable to compound fines ranging from BND1,000 to BND3,000 for the first time and subsequently a three-month jail term .
