Hundred and sixty tonnes of special paddy seedlings will arrive from Indonesia to be planted at Wasan and Labi, outgoing Ambassador of Indonesia to Brunei Darussalam Dr Sujatmiko said.

He made these remarks at the farewell reception hosted by the Diplomatic Corps at the Radisson Hotel yesterday.

He said Indonesia will deliver more paddy seedlings to the Sultanate.

“Within five years, the trade between Brunei Darussalam and Indonesia has grown from USD80 million in 2018 to now USD800 million, which is 10 times higher,” Dr Sujatmiko said.

He also said, “We organised a promotion for investment in the new capital in East Borneo yesterday, with several businessmen showing interest. I hope that we can realise these investments.”

On the tourism front, he said, “Indonesia is increasing the number of Bruneians visiting the country with direct flights to Jakarta, Surabaya”, and hoped for the resumption of direct flights to Bali.

He added, “The relationship between the two countries has been enhanced and I am happy to leave Brunei with very good memories.

“This is not the end. I will continue in my personal capacity to further bridge ties between Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam.”

The event also saw dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of Qatar to Brunei Darussalam Jassim Ali Abdullah Al Obaidli presenting a souvenir to Dr Sujatmiko.

The outgoing ambassador’s spouse Sri Hariyani Tri Ratna also received a souvenir at the reception.
