16 teams reach second round of Piala Keputeraan

Sixteen teams advanced to the second round of the Piala Keputeraan Futsal Championship 2022 at the Indoor Hall of the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Sports Complex recently.

The tournament is held in conjunction with the 76th birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

The draw of the round will see Almerez ‘B’ and Perwira ‘B’ taking on each other while Perwira ‘C’ will meet Arbisyam ‘B’ in another titanic clash.

SU ‘A’ will play DDT FT ‘A’ while Sporty Guy’s reward for reaching the second round is meeting against SU ‘B’, who was one of the two best-placed teams in third place. Also in the last-16 match-up is Kasuka & Ar Rawda against DDT FT ‘B’.

Tournament newcomers Boneka FT will play against dark horse Brunei 88 ‘A’.

Brunei 88 ‘B’ will face GG FT- one of the best third-placed teams- while pre-tournament favourites Almerez ‘A’ will have to navigate past Street United ‘A’.

Syafiq Aiman of Almerez, 16, is the youngest player in the tournament.

The teenager, who trains with Almerez Academy, helped his side progress in the competition after accumulating seven points in the group stage.

Almerez started the group with a win over Brunei 88 ‘B’ before a 1-1 draw with Perwira ‘A’ and a 6-0 win over One Solutions put them in the hat for the second round.

The competition, held for three consecutive Sundays starting from August 28, conclude tomorrow.
