Personnel from the Anti-Vice and Gambling Suppression Unit with the Housebreaking and Car Theft Unit under the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) detained 16 local men for allegedly participating in gambling activities during a raid of a house in Jalan Jerudong Baru, Kampong Tanjong Nangka.
According to the RBPF, the raid took place at around midnight following intelligence gathering and surveillance work.
The suspects, between 17 to 60 years old, are believed to be playing ‘katam-katam’; and among the suspects were five uniformed personnel.
The police also seized a number of items believed to be used for gambling such as dice, cash and a katam-katam board.
All suspects and evidence were brought back to the Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation under Chapter 28 of the Common Gaming Houses Act.
The RBPF also reiterated the need to eradicate gambling in the society as the activity can have negative consequences on one’s future.
