National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) Technical Director Sivaji Narayan has called new recipients of the NFABD ‘C’ Coaching Certificate to possess a mentality of being able to bounce back from potential downfalls and setbacks.
He highlighted this in his welcoming remarks during the closing ceremony of the NFABD ‘C’ Coaching Certificate at the Mulia Hotel in Anggerek Desa yesterday.
The technical director said, “A coach must be very resilient and have a rebound mentality. If you lose a match, you have to look for the next win. And that must be your philosophy.”
He added, “Your journey has just started and you have to put into practice what you have learnt on this course. You must be willing to change things and change how you want to approach certain things based on what you see. That is critical for a coach. You should not just follow what has been thought on this course and deliver. But, you must also try to do things and be prepared to fail.”
The technical director also encouraged coaches to be employable and marketable emphasising on the importance of first impressions.
“It is a tight market for the C Licence holders. You have to show that you have learned something different.”
The first module was first carried out by former national coach Paul Smalley last year and continued by NFABD instructors led by Coach Izzat bin Haji Omar.
Izzat attended the Coach Educators’ course in Bangkok in 2019 and has been on a one-on-one mentoring programme with FIFA Educator Sean Douglas from Australia.
The technical director also sees the completion of the course as an accomplishment despite the apparent challenges brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.
“We got you (the participants) this course and it has been a sense of accomplishment for me and my colleagues.”
Meanwhile, one of the participants said that one must have commitment and interest as well as a strong mentality to be a coach. President of NFABD Pengiran Haji Matusin bin Pengiran Haji Matasan presented certificates to 16 participants of the NFABD ‘C’ Coaching Certificate course for 2020.
