16 arrested for gambling activities

SIXTEEN individuals comprising 13 locals and three permanent residents were arrested following a raid by the Tutong Police yesterday targetting cockfighting and gambling activities at No 2, Simpang 592, Kampong Bukit Gayan, Jalan Sungai Damit, Mukim Ukong.

All evidence materials were seized and the suspects were taken to the Tutong Police Station for further investigations.

The suspects are currently being investigated under Chapter 28, Section 6 (1) of the Common Gambling Houses Act. If convicted, they may be fined up to BND10,000 and jailed up to six months.

The house owner will be investigated under Chapter 28, Section 4 (a) of the Common Gambling Houses Act, which carries a penalty of a fine of up to BND20,000 and 12 months’ imprisonment upon conviction. The Royal Brunei Police Force seeks the public’s cooperation to report gambling and illegal activities within the country.
