    128 students feted for academic excellence

    One hundred and twenty-eight excellent students and 43 teachers received certificates of appreciation during a ceremony at the International Convention Centre yesterday to celebrate students who excelled in public examinations last year.

    Attending the ceremony were Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Hajah Taiyibah Qalbul Bolqiah and Pengiran Haji Mohammad Hakimmuddin bin Pengiran Haji Hashim.

    Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, the chief guest, presented the awards.

    Ten best students who excelled in Brunei Religious Education Higher Certificate (STPUB) exam and five outstanding students in Brunei-Cambridge General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (BC-GCE ‘A’ Level) received awards.

    Others included 10 excellent students in Brunei Religious Education Certificate (SPUB) exam and three best students in Brunei-Cambridge General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level (BC-GCE ‘O’ Level).

    Among the outstanding students for SPUB exam and BC-GCE ‘O’ Level was the granddaughter of His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Pengiran Qaiyimah Nurul Bolkiah binti Pengiran Haji Mohammad Hakimmuddin.

    Fifty best students in Religious Primary Schools Education Certificate (SSSRU) exam and 50 best students in Primary School Assessment (PSR) also received awards.

    The ceremony also coincided with the celebration of teachers who attained 100 per cent achievement for grades A-C and achieved at least level 3 in Teacher Performance Appraisal for the subject taught as well as obtaining at least ‘C’ in performance assessment.

    One teacher is selected for every subject. Nine teachers were selected for STPUB exam, nine for Pre-STPUB, five for SPUB, five for BC-GCE ‘O’ Level in Arabic school, one for BC-GCE ‘O’ Level exam for Islamic religious knowledge, 10 for SSSRU and four for PSR.

    Meanwhile, two schools (religious and Arabic) received Madrasah Mutaqaddimah recognition assessed in whole school evaluation (WSE) last year for the highest achievement (at least level 4). Each received a development grant worth BND1,000 and a plaque.

    Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim and Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Religious) at the MoRA Haji Mohd Serudin bin Haji Timbang also attended.

    The ceremony was held as a sign of gratitude to Allah the Almighty while recognising and incentivising students for their outstanding achievements while motivating them to step up their academic efforts.
