125 bags of garbage collected in Earth Day beach cleaning campaign

ABOUT 125 bags of garbage were collected and disposed in the trash skip when around 100 volunteers from the Malayali Association (MA) participated in a beach cleaning campaign to celebrate Earth Day at the Jubilee Park Beach in Kuala Belait (KB).

They covered approximately 2.5 kilometres collecting trash found on their way last Saturday. Women and children also supported by collecting rubbish and helped in the beach cleanup.

The campaign started with a welcome speech by Sathyanarayanan E followed by an Earth Day message by Venugopal.

The guest of honour was Acting Chairman of KB and Seria Municipal Board Abdol Hazis bin Haji Ahad.

He appreciated MA’s continued commitment and efforts towards social welfare activities and emphasised preserving beaches plays a very vital role in providing a cleaner environment and also serves to protect Mother Nature.

Chief guest Al Art bin Ahmad from the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation appreciated MA’s efforts in holding such campaigns.

President of MA Anilkumar TV handed over mementos to the chief guest.

Prior to the start of the campaign, a general safety briefing was delivered by Varghese Mathew to all participants followed by the beach cleaning.

MA has been holding such campaigns for the past five years aimed at raising awareness on the importance of giving services to the nation and also to highlight the significance of a clean environment.

The beach cleaning ended at 7pm.
