12 individuals, company fined

A total of 12 individuals and a local company were slapped with compound fines for offences under Section 12(1)(a) of the Minor Offences Act, Chapter 30 by personnel from the Law Enforcement Unit of the Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB) Municipal Department during a routine patrol of Menglait, The Mall Gadong, Kiarong and Bandar Seri Begawan.

Three locals and nine foreigners were each issued with BND100 compound fines for littering in public areas.

Meanwhile, the company was fined BND200 for the hazardous dumping of commercial and construction waste close to combustible materials, in addition to hindering emergency and rescue work.

The offenders have been given seven days to settle their fines at the Finance Division of the BSB Municipal Department. Failure to do so would result in a further fine of BND1,000 or a month’s imprisonment, for the first convicted offence.

For subsequent offences, the penalty is a fine of BND3,000 and a prison term of up to three months.
