102 attend Islamic Finance talk

Some 102 participants, comprising lecturers, staff and Years 1-4 undergraduates from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) attended a talk on Islamic finance on ‘Sukuk in Brunei Darussalam’, organised by the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Finance (FEKlm) at the university’s Jubilee Hall last Saturday.

The faculty’s Dean Dr Abdul Nasir bin Haji Abdul Rani was present.

The event was aimed at increasing the students’ knowledge on the implementation of Sukuk in the country.

Deputy Head of Financing Office at the Ministry of Finance and Economy Dr Haji Muhd Aidil Yusrie bin Haji Shari and Head of Government-Linked Companies Unit at BIBD Hajah Irma Suryani Mazwati binti Haji Hashim facilitated the event.

The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, led by Islamic finance undergraduate Muhd Hazwan Hanif bin Haji Junaidi, while Nur Hafizah Izzati bin Mohd Esa from the BA in Business Management programme was the moderator for the talk.

Dr Haji Muhd Aidil Yusrie highlighted the features of Sukuk used in the country as well as its neighbour, Malaysia, Sukuk future plans and the role of Sukuk in economic development, while Hajah Irma Suryani detailed BIBD’s role in developing the Sukuk system in Brunei as well as the array of investment opportunities for the public.
