SINGAPORE (CNA) – Drugs worth SGD470,000 were seized in a five-day drug bust that saw 100 suspects arrested, said the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) in a news release yesterday.

The haul comprised 194 grammes (g) of heroin, 657g of ice, 9,339g of cannabis, 104g of ketamine, 7g of new psychoactive substances (NPS), 236g of ecstasy tablets, one Erimin-5 tablet, one lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) stamp and six bottles of liquid suspected to contain gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB).

The areas covered in the islandwide operation, which took place from Monday to Friday, included Boon Lay, Changi, Sengkang and Toa Payoh.

In one of the cases, CNB officers raided a residential unit in Sumang Walk and arrested a 56-year-old Singaporean man for suspected drug trafficking offences.

About 66g of heroin and 16g of Ice were seized, along with various drug paraphernalia and more than SGD4,300 in cash.

In another case, a 46-year-old Singaporean woman and a 41-year-old male foreign national were arrested in Haig Road.

About 7g of ice and nearly SGD16,000 in cash were recovered from the woman, while about SGD8,300, including foreign currencies, was recovered from the man.

Both of them were then escorted to their hideout in the same vicinity, where officers seized 327g of ice, 18g of cannabis, 103g of ketamine, 62g of ecstasy tablets, one LSD stamp, and various drug paraphernalia. Another package containing about 1g of ice was later recovered by officers in the compound of the residential unit.

Another operation in Geylang Lorong 7 saw four male foreign nationals, aged between 22 and 30, arrested.

One suspect tried to evade arrest but was caught after a short chase. About SGD20,000 in cash was seized from him.

A total of 5g of ice, 35g of cannabis, and 4g of ecstasy tablets were recovered from two other suspects.

Before the men were arrested, they were believed to have discarded a package, which was later found to contain more than SGD14,000 in cash.

Officers then discovered more drugs – 111g of heroin, 234g of ice, 9,282g of cannabis and 170g of ecstasy tablets – after being escorted to a hideout near Geylang Lorong 9, where another man was arrested.

Those convicted of trafficking more than 15g of pure heroin (diamorphine), 250g of methamphetamine or 500g of cannabis may face the mandatory death penalty.
