A 10-YEAR-OLD girl died on Sunday, after being trapped for nearly an hour under a huge sand mound at a mining site in Sungai Paku, Tutong District.
Led by ASO Ramlee, six personnel from the Sungai Liang Fire Station were dispatched to the scene, after the Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 3.54pm.
Upon arrival, the team began efforts to recover the victim, using shovels. A Kato heavy vehicle was also deployed to excavate the sand mound, measuring about 20 metres from ground level. The victim was found unconscious at 4.42pm, and immediately rushed by a waiting ambulance to the Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah Hospital in Tutong.
A Royal Brunei Police Force statement confirmed that the victim died from her injuries. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
