FINANCIALLY less capable families received donations from Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) yesterday to prepare for their children’s upcoming new school term.
YSHHB was established as a platform for doing charity work and providing donations from His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and the royal family.
The donation also shows the concern and love of the caring monarch towards the people.
In line with the establishment of YSHHB and its objectives to care for the welfare and prosperity of the people – especially the underprivileged – YSHHB handed over coupons to purchase books, school equipment and stationery.
The contributions were handed over in hopes of lessening the families’ financial burden in terms of buying school necessities.
Coupons worth BND60 and 20 workbooks for each student were also presented. Some 660 students from 224 financially less capable families in the Brunei-Muara and Tutong districts received donations which totalled BND51,320.50.
Prior to this, YSHHB has also handed over donations to 458 financially less capable students in Temburong and Tutong districts worth around BND35,199.50 on December 11.
The donations yesterday were handed over by the Managing Director of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Haji Brahim bin Haji Ismail. Also present were parents, guardians and some were represented by the school principals and representatives.
It is hoped that the contributions would be utilised fully by the students and encourage them to strive to enhance their school performance, and create awareness to jointly take care of the welfare of underprivileged families and those in need.
