OVER 200 youths have registered as volunteers for the upcoming Brunei December Festival (BDF) 2017, said Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali, the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Tourism) at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, and the Secretary of the Brunei Tourism Board, during a dialogue session held yesterday at the Youth Centre in the capital.
The Deputy Permanent Secretary also said the volunteers’ role is to support the event organisers in ensuring a smooth running of operations and logistics during BDF 2017.
“BDF 2017 will require at least 400 volunteers for all of the events in the four districts, and currently, there are 209 registered volunteers,” he said.
He then urged local youths, aged between 15 to 40 years, to register at the Youth Centre for the first ever local festival with over 30 events and activities, during the month-long December holiday season.
The closing date for registration is November 13. The briefing also included a presentation on the latest developments of BDF 2017 by Kartini binti Haji Kabri, a Special Duties Officer at the Tourism Development Department.
The presentation was followed by a motivational talk for the volunteers, presented by Cikgu Haji Ali Yusri bin Haji Abdul Ghafoor, the Acting Head of the Special Education Unit at the Ministry of Education.
BDF 2017 was initiated by Brunei Tourism Board, with the collaboration of several ministries, public sectors, event managers and relevant stakeholders, to boost local tourism, while increasing business opportunities for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Also present at the dialogue session was Haji Md Sofian bin Haji Amit, a representative of the Youth and Sports Department at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
