IN CONJUNCTION with the International Anti-Corruption Day, a Friday Sermon Presentation Competition for Youth Nationwide and Prize Presentation for Friday Sermon Text Writing Competition were held yesterday at the school hall of Pengiran Anak Puteri Mutawakillah Hayatul Bolkiah Religious School, Kampong Serusop. The event was jointly organised by the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Department of Mosque Affairs from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and committee members of Mohamed Bolkiah Mosque.
In attendance as the guest of honour was the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yusof. Also present at the event were Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Juanda bin Haji A Rashid, Permanent Secretary (Legal and Welfare) at the Prime Minister’s Office, Director of Anti-Corruption Bureau and officers from the Prime Minister’s Office, Anti-Corruption Bureau, Mosque Affairs Department and Curriculum Development Department of Ministry of Education.
The main objective was to create public awareness and understanding on corruption, especially the offences and their prevention through the legal aspect and Islamic perspective. Such an initiative is also in line with Article 13 of the United Nations Convention against Corruption that stresses on public involvement to fight against corruption.
The sermon text writing competition was opened to citizens and permanent residents of Brunei Darussalam beginning on April 1 until June 2. Meanwhile, the presentation of Friday sermon competition was opened to the members of the mosque youth in all four districts who are not more than 25 years of age.
