MORE than 800 people gathered at Pusat Insani in Seria to witness the second edition of Expression Music’s Leap of Creation which was inaugurated in 2010.
Present at this year’s Leap of Creation 2 Charity Concert as the guest of honour was Haji Haris bin Haji Othman, Belait District Officer.
The show was officially launched with an opening performance composed by Lily Chiam entitled “Kehadiran Mu”, a piece played by Shian Li Chiam, 15, winner of the Junior Grand World Champion Instrumental Award in the recent World Championships of Performing Arts 2014 in Los Angeles, California.
The audience was delighted to see toddlers aged three to five years from the Expression Music Fun and the Expression Music Genius programme taking on the stage to showcase what they have learnt throughout the music courses which were designed to nurture children through music as well as group interaction.
The event was filled with performances from the talented students of Expression Music ranging from violin, live band to orchestra and piano solos to name a few.
The crowd fell silent with awe admiring the beautiful voices of Mercedes and Florence Holmes who sang the Sous le dôme épais (The Flower Duet) in harmonious synergy.
Cheers erupted when the juniors performed a mash-up from Disney’s hit movie, Frozen.
One of the highlights of the event was when the audience were momentarily sent back to the 1960s during a handbells performance of the song ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’.
Expression Music was launched in 1996 with a dream of not only to teach music to students in order to pass music exams but giving them opportunities to perform and showcase their skills.
In 2010, Expression Music successfully held its first Leap of Creation Mega Charity Concert at the Jerudong Park Amphitheatre which was attended by 3,000 people.
This year, some of the proceeds were donated to the DANA Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah, Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam and SMARTER Brunei.
