THE young cast of the adaptation of Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, comprising Jerudong International School (JIS) students aged 11-15 years, held a rehearsal recently.
The play will be held today at 7.45pm and tomorrow at 2.30pm at JIS. Tickets are priced between $10 and $25.
The young cast rose to the challenge as they used the original language which the play was written; many of the cast members do not have English as their mother tongue.
The scenery depicts the classical architecture of Athens, Greece or the forest, lit in green and blue of night, as their crisp costumes and the dramatic acting all combined together to bring Shakespeare’s classic comedy to life for the audience to enjoy.
The story revolves around a tangled love quartet Lysander, played by Bruneian Caleb Burhan, who is in love with Hermia.
As the storyline goes, Hermia’s father disapproves. Demetrius, the enemy of Lysander also loves Hermia. Helena, the best friend of Hermia, is in love with Demetrius. These four young people end up in a forest at night as Hermia tries to escape from her father.
