THE inaugural Innovation Day organised by Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB) yesterday attracted a huge crowd during its long-day series of guided activities which was held at the Anggerek Desa Technology Park.
Various interactive activities were enjoyed by members of the public such as a DJ session as well as AnakIT and Mini Hackathon games where the participants of each activity developed and presented their innovative solutions to a panel of experts.
At the same time, there was also an acoustic session for local talents to showcase their singing abilities and it was further enlivened with a special performance from Liyana Yus, the main character of the movie Yasmine.
The highlight of the activities yesterday was the meet-and-greet session with the cast and team members of the Yasmine, Brunei’s first feature film which debuted last August.
It was an amazing experience for the crowd of fans who gathered at the sharing session yesterday as the cast and team members, particularly Liyana Yus and Nadiah Wahid, who also delighted their fans by joining them for the photo and signing sessions.
Speaking to the audience, director Siti Kamaluddin believed that there are a lot of stories of Brunei that can be presented through movies and advised not to be afraid in sharing them.
On the LEAP grant from BEDB, she said that the grant has helped her as the director of the movie and has given her the opportunity to develop the movie such as finding ways on how to fund the movie, to train the actors and actresses and to finish up the script.
She hopes that it will inspire other local film makers to venture themselves into creative or film industry and be able make Brunei proud.
Towards the end, Siti Kamaluddin added that the movie means a lot to her because she has dedicated years to create her first feature film and although it was hard work, she was satisfied enough, and expressed her gratitude and appreciation to her local and international audiences.
