Berlin (dpa) – The 2022 World Cup will be held in Qatar November-December 2022, the US magazine Sports Illustrated reported late Wednesday.
Citing multiple sources, the magazine said a FIFA task force is to meet in Doha next week to recommend the dates. These will then be ratified by the FIFA executive committee at a meeting in Zurich in March.
Deciding when to play the controversial World Cup in the Gulf State has proved difficult with the traditional time of June-July made all but impossible by the high summer temperatures in Qatar.
However, top European clubs have so far resisted suggestions that the tournament be played during their domestic season and officials have also been anxious to avoid a clash with the 2022 winter Olympic Games.
