A CEREMONY to hand-over personal endowments or ‘Wakaf’ in the form of books from Dana Ihsan Annur Harapan to Women’s Prison was held yesterday as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to generate the interest and to encourage the culture of reading in the community especially among women inmates.
The contribution of holy books and reading materials in this charity project will add to the collection of reading materials and is aimed to increase knowledge among the inmates.
The ceremony was held at Jerudong Prisons in the presence of the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Awg Roslan bin Haji Taja’ah.
Also present were the Acting Director Prisons, Awg Haji Ismail bin Haji Murat; Chairpersons of the Board of Trustees of Dana Ihsan Annur Harapan, Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman bin Pengiran Haji Damit and Dyg Rinawaty binti Abdullah @ Suzanne Rahaman Aeby; Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Annur Harapan, Dato Paduka Haji Abd Rahman bin Haji Mohiddin; members of the Board of Trustees, heads of management and division of the Prisons Department.
The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by the welcome remarks by the officer-in-charge of Women’s Prison, Pengiran Roslinawati binti Pengiran Hj Omar and CEO from Annur Harapan.
The books were handed over by Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman bin Pengiran Haji Damit and his wife Dyg Rinawaty binti Abdullah @ Suzanne Rahaman Aeby.
They were later briefed on the roles and responsibilities of Prisons Department. They also witnessed a lashing demonstration and toured Prisons Gallery.
Dana Ihsan Annur Harapan hopes to extend such programme to other institutions in the public sector and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) according to needs and relevancy.
