JASIN (Bernama) – Four members of a family died when the car they were travelling in was involved in an accident with two other cars in Kampung Bukit Gereja, Jalan Serkam Pantai, Merlimau yesterday.
The victims were identified as Ida Dollah, 46, who was driving the Perodua Kancil car, her daughters Siti Rohana Abd Ghafar, 23, and Siti Rohani, 18, from Kesang Laut, Muar, Johor and Ida’s mother-in-law, Saimah Wahab, 77, in the 4pm accident.
A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the accident was believed to have occurred when the car Ida was driving from the direction of Bandar Melaka collided with a Proton Perdana car coming from the opposite direction.
He said the victims’ car then collided with a Proton Preve which was travelling behind it, causing Ida’s daughters, Siti Rohana and Siti Rohani, who were in the back passenger seats, to be thrown out of the vehicle.
The accident also caused Ida, a factory worker, and Saimah who was in the front passenger seat, to be trapped in their seats.
“The four victims died at the scene, while the driver of the Proton Perdana suffered light injuries and the driver of the Proton Preve was not hurt,” he said.
Jasin district police chief, DSP Muhd Nur Hishamuddin Hashim confirmed the accident.
