A 23-YEAR-old Malaysian woman will be sentenced on October 8 after she pleaded guilty yesterday in the Intermediate Court to criminal breach of trust by misappropriating just above $16,000 of her employer company’s money.
Judge Haji Abdullah Soefri adjourned the proceedings to consider the sentence against Siti Noorashikin Azlan, who committed the offence while working with AV Electronics Sdn Bhd.
Facts of the case admitted by the defendant stated that Siti was a supervisor at AV Electronics Sdn Bhd in Kuala Belait and was entrusted with the collection of money from purchases made in the shop.
It was revealed that at about 6.15pm on September 25, an employee of the shop went to lodge a report at the Kuala Belait police station that a large number of the company’s inventory had gone missing.
Investigations led to the defendant being named the prime suspect.
It was found that the defendant sold items from the inventory and pocketed the money for her own use. She did not record the sales.
The offences were committed from October 2013 until she was caught in September 2014.
During mitigations, the defendant said she comes from a poor family and was desperate for money leading to committing the offence.
She is the eldest in the family and needs to look after her grandfather back in Miri who is suffering from a stroke.
