MUHAMMAD Yadiy bin Haji Mat Yassin, a representative from Sultan Sharif Ali Mosque in Kg Sengkurong, emerged as champion in the Friday Sermon Presentation Competition for Youth Nationwide 2014, while Suriati binti Haji Ali Hussin won the Friday Sermon Text Writing Competition yesterday.
The competition was held in conjunction with the International Anti-Corruption Day and was organised by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in collaboration with the Mosque Affairs Department and Takmir Committee Members of Mohamed Bolkiah Mosque. The event took place at the hall of Pengiran Anak Puteri Mutawakillah Hayatul Bolkiah Religious School in Kg Serusop.
The prizes were presented by the guest of honour, Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Aziz bin Orang Kaya Maharaja Lela Haji Mohd Yusof, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Also in attendance were Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Juanda bin Haji A Rashid, Permanent Secretary (Law and Welfare) at the Prime Minister’s Office cum Director of Anti-Corruption Bureau, directors, senior officials as well as officers from the Prime Minister’s Office, Anti-Corruption Bureau, Department of Mosque Affairs and Department of Curriculum Development at the Ministry of Education.
The ceremony commenced with a mass recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by a welcoming remark by Awang Haji Amir Hisham bin Haji Masri, Acting Director of Mosque Affairs in his capacity as the chairman of the ceremony.
Awang Haji Amir Hisham highlighted that the competition aimed to provide ample understanding and awareness among the youth on the importance of Friday Sermons, as well as to understand the norms and procedures in presenting and delivering more attractive and effective Friday Sermons.
Among the objectives of the competition were to increase awareness on corruption and to promote awareness on ethical values as a foundation of integrity in oneself. It also aimed to raise awareness and educate the public on corruption, particularly in terms of the laws involved and the concept of Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB).
The champion of the Friday Sermon Presentation Competition walked away with a trophy, a cash prize of $300 and certificate of participation, while the winner of the Friday Sermon Writing Competition brought home a cash prize of $500 and certificate of participation.
The runner-up of the Friday Sermon Presentation Competition was Adi Hafizee bin Zanidi, a representative from Zainab Mosque in Lumut while third place went to Muhd Syahirul Syafiq bin Rashid from Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah.
The runner-up of Friday Sermon Text Writing Competition was Dk Norasidah binti Pg Haji Rakawi, while third place went to Noor Syazwani binti Haji Majin.
