AFTER an intense demonstration of skill and precision, a new champion was crowned in the Malar Setia Freestyle competition, which was organised by the Brunei Football Freestyle Footwork (BF3) and held in conjunction with the Brunei Edutainment Wonderland 2014.
Fourteen of the best football freestylers from around Brunei competed for the right to be the next freestyle football champion in front of judges including the 2014 Azri Trickster Freestyle Football Championship (ATFFC) winner from Malaysia, Ariff Karim.
Kuala Belait-based freestyle football enthusiast, ‘Peejan’, was crowned the new winner after a showdown with the previous winner ‘Zeemo’.
Zeemo wowed the crowd with his juggling skills as he caught the ball in mid air while Peejan impressed the judges with his smooth and precise technique.
“It was definitely a difficult decision as both participants had their own style but in the end we had to choose a winner,” said one of the judges, the founder of BF3, Md Adi Iskandar bin Hj Abu Bakar.
Presenting prizes to the winners was the Logistic Director of Syarikat Perniagaan Malar Setia, Lim, who awarded a $300 cash prize, a trophy and a certificate to Peejan, while Zeemo won a $200 cash prize, a trophy and a certificate. In third place, ‘Puyeek’ won himself a $150 cash prize, a trophy and a certificate.
Other prizes were presented during the night to the winners of the Panna Ko competition, which was won by Thai freestyle football enthusiast, Jack Ps. He took home a $300 cash prize, a trophy and a certificate.
The winner of the Football Freestyle individual routine category, ‘Faiq’, also received a cash prize of $300, a trophy and a certificate.
“It was an amazing event which showed that the football freestyle scene is getting better every year with another new person showcasing individual progress in the sport,” said the founder of BF3.
