FIFTEEN local lawn bowl athletes from the Wisdom Bowls Club (WBC) will leave the country tomorrow to compete in next week’s Labuan International Open Mixed Triples Championship.
According to a press release issued yesterday by the WBC, the chosen players, which include students from the Rimba Secondary Schools, will compete in the championship from December 29, 2014 to January 1, 2015, accompanied by one supervising teacher.
WBC said that they decided to enter the young athletes in the event to give them exposure to an international competition and the opportunity to go up against more ex-perienced players.
It was also revealed that the athletes have been going through intensive training under the Head Coach at WBC, Hj Abdul Ghafar bin Pehin Orang Kaya Laksamana Dato Seri Setia Hj Mohd Taha.
The coach commented that he could only hope for the best for his athletes although they have proven their po-tential in the past two years and performed excellently during training.
He added that the Labuan event is the best arena for the athletes to test their potentials, show their abilities and aim for prestige.
The players, who are very eager and excited, are to com-pete in two categories – Pairs, and Mixed Triples.
