THE Women’s Business Council (WBC) will be organising its first Charity Golf Tournament from November 28-30, at the Royal Brunei Golf & Country Club in Berakas.
This was announced at a press conference by the chairman of the organising committee, Seruji bin Hj Setia, and the council’s president, Datin Paduka Hjh Rokiah binti Hj Zakiah.
In his welcoming note, the chairman extended the group’s appreciation to the Royal Brunei Golf Club and the print media partner for the tournament, the Borneo Bulletin and Media Permata, as well as all the sponsors who are contributing to make the event a success.
Datin Paduka Hjh Rokiah highlighted that the tournament serves to collect funds for orphans who are registered under the Community Development Department, as well as encouraging members to take up an interest in community activities through social enterprise.
“This is the first time WBC is organising the event and looks forward to an interesting and challenging tournament for the participating golfers. We are projecting that some 300 golfers will take part,” she said.
She added that the tournament is open to the public and to golfers from neighbouring Sabah and Sarawak.
Meanwhile, the chairman highlighted that there are two categories: Gross and Nett categories. The main category will have three divisions – Division A (handicap 0-9), B (handicap 10-18) and C (handicap 19 to 24).
“We are also open to lady golfers for the gross ladies event and senior golfers for the Nett event as well as having a VIPs and Sponsors category. There will also be a ‘Hole-in-One’ grand prize to be won.
Registration for the tournament is open from now until November 27, with a registration fee of $100, which includes a goodie bag and the tournament t-shirt.
There is no online registration and forms have been distributed to all golf clubs in the country. The forms must be submitted along with the fee at the Royal Brunei Golf & Country Club
Winners of the various categories will earn cash prizes and the grand prize of the ‘Hole-in-One’ is a brand new Proton Saga sponsored by United Motors Sdn Bhd.
“We will see how this first event turn outs and from there, we hope to see if we can organise more tournaments in the future,” Datin Paduka Hjh Rokiah concluded.
