A CHIEF Technical Assistant at the Water Services Department, Public Works Department, Sunie bin Timbang, was brought before the Magistrate’s Court, Bandar Seri Begawan to face a charge under Section 6(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act (Chapter 131) and another charge under Section 165 of the Penal Code (Chapter 22).
Deputy Public Prosecutor, Pg Nina Jasmine binti PLKDR Pg Hj Bahrin informed the court that an investigation conducted by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) revealed that the defendant on a day between May and June 2009 accepted from a Malaysian national $400 as a reward to approve an enterprise’s quotation in the tender to provide a CCTV system to Mengkubau and Tasek Water Treatment Plant. Details of the case were revealed by the ACB in a press release yesterday.
On the second charge, the deputy public prosecutor informed the court that on a day between May and June 2009, the defendant agreed to accept $400 from a Malaysian national, a person whom the defendant knew to have connections with his official functions as a public servant. No plea was taken from the defendant.
Magistrate Hjh Ervy Sufitriana binti Hj Abd Rahman ordered the defendant to be released on a bail of $5,000 or one local surety. The court fixed January 8, 2015 for further mention of the case.
