BRIGHT Jigsaw International School, with the assistance of Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans (DANA), organised a ‘wheelkathon’ charity project to raise funds for the DANA.
The event was held at Taman Jubli Perak Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah where the guest of honour was Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yusoff bin Haji Ismail, the Acting Minister of Education.
The event began with the singing of the national anthem, followed by a welcoming remark from the school’s principal, Catherine San Diego, and a speech from the guest of honour.
Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yusoff praised Bright Jigsaw International School and all parties involved in the worthy cause, adding that he was pleased to learn that all proceeds from the event will go to the DANA where many orphans will benefit from it.
“Allow me to express my utmost gratitude to all donors for their generosity by sharing their blessings to help alleviate the plight of the many orphans who need attention, care and love. I hope that this would not be the last of its kind, but a continuing pledge to support the needy,” he said.
He then received a token of appreciation from the event’s chairperson and had a group photo with the event’s committee members.
The participants along with the guests then joined an aerobic session, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony by the guest of honour to officiate the wheelkathon.
There were also games, a lucky draw and children’s entertainment.
The theme for the event was, “Walk and Roll for a Good Cause”, which had the participants walk or ride any wheeled transportation such as bicycles, rollerblades, skateboards or push-chairs while promoting a healthy lifestyle, bonding with members of the community as well donating to a good cause.
