A DINNER reception was held onboard the Dinh Tien Hoang (HQ-011), one of the biggest frigates from the Vietnam People’s Navy (VPN) last night at the Muara Commercial Port as part of a two-day inaugural goodwill visit to the Sultanate.
Present was Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah.
Also present were Commander of the Royal Brunei Navy, First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz bin Haji Mohd Tamit and Nguyen Truong Giang, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Brunei Darussalam together with officers from the RBAF and RBN and other ambassadors and Defence Attaché’ delegation of Asean member countries to Brunei.
In his welcoming remarks, Rear Admiral Nguyen Van Kiem, Deputy Chief of Staff of the VPN, expressed his gratitude, saying that officers and sailors of VPN “totally enjoyed the best sentiment of people, armed forces and the RBN extended to us”.
He also lauded the friendly relations between Brunei and Vietnam, established over 20 years ago.
Both countries have frequently conducted exchange of visits at different level and support each other in international and regional arena.
The Rear Admiral also touched on the defence cooperation of Vietnam and Brunei which has witnessed positive developments, especially with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on defence cooperation between armies and navies from both countries.
He believes that the bilateral relations contribute to peace, stability, maritime security and safety in the South China Sea towards successfully building the Asean Community in 2015.
