BRUNEI Gas Carriers (BGC) presented eye glasses to underprivileged students from both primary and secondary sections nationwide as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility in conjunction with the World Sight Day, at the Rizqun International Hotel.
Handing over the eye glasses was Managing Director of Brunei Gas Carriers, Hj Shahbudin Hj Musa. This initiative by BGC was conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education’s Community Partnership Committee and Perfect Vision Brunei Eye Care Centre.
According to Hj Shahbudin, more than 300 eye examinations were conducted for students from 55 schools nationwide prior to the handing over ceremony.
“Today’s event focuses on two objectives: To participate in raising awareness on visual impairment and secondly, to help students by providing eye examinations and a pair of correctly prescribed glasses. In line with the company’s vision of Shipping Energy First Class, BGC believes in the importance of education. Impediments to progressing well in class due to difficulties from not having normal vision would be an unfortunate disadvantage to the educational pursuits of such affected students,” said Hj Shahbudin during his welcoming speech.
“Hopefully, the small invested time and material support for visually disadvantaged youth would contribute significantly towards improving the students’ well-being both in and out of school.”
