PARIS (AP) – Jiri Vesely salvaged some pride for the Czech Republic as he beat Julien Benneteau 6-4, 6-3 in a consolation win against France in the semfinal of the Davis Cup on Sunday.
France earned its place in the final for the first time since 2010 on Saturday when Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Richard Gasquet won the doubles to give the hosts an unassailable 3-0 lead against the two-time defending champions.
France won the last of its nine cups in 2001. It will either travel to Italy or host Switzerland in the final from Nov. 21-23.
France’s Gaël Monfils will take on Lukas Rosol in the remaining reverse singles match.
