AMEC Foster Wheeler (B) Sdn Bhd hosted a congratulatory high-tea session to welcome its first batch of local graduate trainees at The Empire Hotel & Country Club yesterday. The session was attended by Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) and Lesley Birse, Senior Vice President HR, Oil, Gas & Chemicals, Human Resources, Amec Foster Wheeler.
A total of 16 UTB graduates – four Master’s graduates, eight Degree graduates, three Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates and one Degree student currently in final year were selected during a three-day assessment to enable the company to identify, hire and nurture talented individuals to join its departments for a sustainable career. Amec Foster Wheeler (B) Sdn Bhd received over 130 applications, and 42 candidates were shortlisted and invited to participate.
Amec Foster Wheeler (B) Sdn Bhd Project Director Donald MacLeod said it has always been part of their long-term strategy to invest in local youths and offer them structured development programmes, with the aim of nurturing them to become managers and supervisors in their line of business.
The fresh graduates during their training programme will be given hands-on opportunities, including exposure to site environments and assignments overseas.
MacLeod also said they are planning to take in more local graduates to join the programme next year.
