BRUNEI Darussalam’s youth must be intelligent and cautious while using the new media because the misuse of such services could bring about disastrous effects not only to an individual’s faith but to one’s race and country, imams said in their Friday sermon yesterday ahead of the 31st National Day celebration this coming Monday.
The negative influences that can arise from the misuse of websites, blogs and WhatsApp are among the challenges faced by the nation in trying to produce a visionary generation of young people, the imams said, adding that the Internet and social media have made it easy to disseminate information.
A generation with a vision will lead the country in a more creative way and with farsightedness, wisely find solutions to national issues and help accelerate the country’s development, the imams said.
The National Day celebration’s theme ‘Generation with a Vision’ denotes a young generation that will be at the forefront of leading the country in the future to achieve the nation’s mission and vision by 2035.
The imams said all parties involved must cooperate fully in building a young generation of quality to attain the country’s Vision 2035 and establish Brunei Darussalam as a Zikir Nation.
To achieve this noble vision, the youth will have to equip themselves with virtuous Mahmudah (praiseworthy) traits and seek guidance from their seniors.
The young generation will also need to be knowledgeable and highly skilled in a variety of fields such as religion, economy, social, information and communication technology, languages and science, the imams said.
They will need to abide by the national philosophy of Malay Islamic Monarchy as their way of life.
The imams said, “In light of this, let us all flock to mosques, suraus and religious halls throughout the country with a special focus on Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque on Sunday evening (February 22,
2015) to perform our congregational Maghrib and Isyak obligatory prayers, Sunnat Hajat prayer, recite Surah Yaasiin and offer thanksgiving prayers in conjunction with the 31st National Day of Brunei Darussalam.
“Let us all together pray for the people and residents of this country to continue to flourish, stay united and to be granted mercy and blessings of Allah the Almighty,” the imams added.
