GRANNY Smith and Gala apples imported from the United States are free from Listeria Monocytegenes bacterial contamination, the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources stated in a press release.
In this context, apples imported into Brunei are safe for consumption and allowed to be distributed and sold in this country.
The statement was released yesterday following a recently issued report by the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources and Ministry of Health on the recall and temporary freeze of importation of Granny Smith and Gala apples from the United States.
The ministry said it has taken appropriate steps by conducting an analysis on the apple sample at the local laboratory. It has also sent the sample overseas for laboratory reference.
To ensure public safety, the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources will continue to monitor food products and take appropriate steps when needed.
