THE current synoptic weather situation and latest numerical weather models show indications of more unsettled weather conditions expected to affect the country from time to time during the remainder of January 2015.
According to a press release from the Brunei Meteorological Department, the wave height over the Brunei waters are also expected to occasionally rise from moderate to rough state up to 3.5m, with wind speed increasing up to 60km/h, especially over offshore areas. These conditions are mainly due to the prevailing Northeast Monsoon surges that are continuously transporting moisture to the equatorial region including Brunei Darussalam.
In view of these situations, we would like to advise the general public, motorists, and mariners to take necessary steps and precautions, especially during active weather conditions to ensure safety and the prevention of undesirable incidents.
The Brunei Meteorological Department said it will continue to monitor the weather conditions closely and will issue appropriate weather advisory or warnings, as and when necessary according to its Standard Operating Procedures.
