THE Educational Promotion Committee of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) yesterday organised the Open Day and Careers 2015 for students who have completed their Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Ugama Brunei (STPUB) and ‘A’ Level examinations. The event was held in cooperation with the Entrance and Examination Section of UNISSA.
The guest of honour at the event was the Rector of UNISSA, Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal.
In his opening speech, he said the view that UNISSA’s graduates are only suited for religious careers is not accurate as many of the them have worked in various capacities in the public and private sectors.
He added that the academic as well as non-academic posts in UNISSA are now available for graduates with good academic record.
UNISSA graduates are not only equipped with a vast knowledge in Islam but are also given the relevant exposure through industrial training to prepare them for their chosen careers, the rector said.
He added that the graduates are also skilled in many areas to cope with the current situation.
He believed that UNISSA has the potential to become not only the region’s top Islamic educational institution, but also globally in the field of religious education.
He added that UNISSA has received many applications from students abroad, as well as foreign universities that send their students to UNISSA through the Student Exchange Programme and their academic lecturers to further their studies.
He hoped that the local undergraduates will show the same determination they have in learning to prepare themselves to face the global economic situation.
According to UNISSA, among the aims of the event were to help students select their relevant programmes, to give them a platform to gain information on various programmes and courses offered at the university, to provide opportunities for potential undergraduates to know about entrance and procedures and to give the relevant exposure to undergraduates on the available careers and opportunities.
