UNISSA as the nation’s Islamic knowledge centre does not only prioritise its academic quality and the welfare of its community, but is also highly concerned with the community’s welfare and interests.
The university always support efforts and services that give positive impact as well as benefits and well-being to Islam, the nation and the country, which is in line with the vision, mission and objectives of the university.
Director of the Promotion of Knowledge and Language Learning Centre of UNISSA, Dr Siti Sara Hj Ahmad, highlighted this in her speech at the presentation of donation to the Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans yesterday at UNISSA.
The donation was proceeds from the university’s “Karnival Amal PPIB 2014” project, which was carried out as a continuation of the charity activities implemented by the university.
The project was also implemented in support of helping the needy and helping to raise funds for the Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans, which was carried out by the Promotion of Knowledge and Language Learning Centre (PPIB), UNISSA.
Involving the community of UNISSA, its students in particular, as well as the general public, the event took place from December 4 to December 7, 2014, featuring competitions of public interests.
These competitions comprise of the “Penghayatan Melayu Islam Beraja”, “Memasyarakatkan Bahasa Melayu”, “Memasyarakatkan Bahasa Arab”, “Memasyarakatkan Bahasa Inggeris” and “Memvariasikan Perlaksanaan Kursus Ko-Kurrikulum”.
Also featured in the fundraising activity last year were competitions on “Peranan Informasi Teknologi Maklumat dalam Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran”, “Kadet Tentera”, “Majlis Perwakilan Pelajar” and “Mahasiswa/wi Luar Negara” and “Alumnai UNISSA”.
Aside from instilling competitive attitude, leadership and skills in entrepreneurship, the competition also serves to boost spirit of its students to be creative in entrepreneurship, taking their part in contributing to orphans, as well as exposing them towards approaching the community.
The fundraising activities successfully accumulated a total of $15,000 – $6,562.81 from the earlier fundraising activity and $8,437.29 from the ‘Karnival Amal PPIB 2014” activities.
Proceeds from the carnival were collected from the Memorising of Verses of the Al-Quran, Rector’s Trophy Futsal for UNISSA community, Tausyeh Competition for Secondary Schools and Higher Learning Institutions, Story-Telling, Jawi Writing, Colouring, Drawing, and Photography and Jawi Spelling Creativity.
Out of the total fund accumulated, $4,500 were contributed to the Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans and $2,171.36 were contributed to the PPIB Fund. Yesterday’s event also saw the presentation of prizes and certificates to the winners of the competitions and charity carnival competitions.
