UNIVERSITI Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) yesterday held a Graduation Night for the 115 students, who graduated at the university’s 4th Hafl al-Takharruj (Convocation) earlier in the day.
Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, the Minister of Education was the guest of honour at the event, which took place at the Royal Berkshire Hall of Royal Brunei Polo and Riding Club, Jerudong. Also present were special guests from local and foreign higher education institutions and UNISSA officers and staff.
Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, the Rector of UNISSA gave a welcoming speech, in which he said that the event coincided with the presentation of medals and book prizes to 50 graduates. One graduate received the Rector Medal, five received the University Medal and 44 others received the Book Prizes.
The medal recipients were selected based on a comprehensive assessment of their ‘sakhsiah’ with priority given to academic achievement, he said.
He added that the presentation of the medals and book prizes is in recognition of the students, who excelled in their studies, and as an encouragement to others.
