THE Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) held an open lecture on the development and expansion of science and technology, in Gadong yesterday. The lecture was conducted by the President of the Foundation of Science Technology and Civilisation (FTSC) in United Kingdom, Professor Dr TS Salim.
The guest of honour at the event was Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Datin Paduka Hajah Adina binti Othman. Professor Dr TS Salim delivered an insightful lecture on the importance of women’s role in the civilisation of the Islamic community.
During the lecture, the professor shared documentations of Muslim women excelling in the fields of science, literature, jurisprudence and tradition. He said that this is a strong proof that women of today should be inclined to preserve their important roles in accordance with the modern day developments – particularly in science and technology.
Also in attendance at the lecture were senior female officers, officers and committee members of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS); graduates and undergraduates and lecturers of UNISSA and members of several women’s association.
The lecture was collaboratively organised by the MCYS and UNISSA in conjunction with and support of the recently concluded Knowledge Convention 2014.
