THE Department of Economic Planning and Development (JPKE) is compiling monthly statistics on the number of local job seekers.
The statistics looks to provide the latest estimate of the number of unemployed individuals as well as the profile of Brunei citizens and permanent residents (aged between 18 and 59) who are actively seeking work.
In August 2014, the number of unemployed locals increased to 12,275 persons, compared to 12,173 in July 2014. There had been an increase of 254 new job-seekers registered, while 152 had already secured jobs.
Of the total, 8,238 persons (67 per cent) live in the Brunei-Muara District; 7,183 (59 per cent) of whom are women; 6,223 persons (51 per cent) are between the ages of 20 and 29; and 8,490 persons (70 per cent) have secondary education as their highest education attainment.
