KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) – Anger over finished biscuits has landed an unemployed man eight months in jail and a fine of RM8,000 after he pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court for causing hurt to his two children, aged eight and five, last week.
Magistrate Nor Azura Murah also ordered Mohd Suhaimie Ahmad Tahir, 36, to be sentenced to another five months’ imprisonment if he failed to pay the fines.
He was accused of committing the offence in his house at the People’s Housing Project in Pantai Dalam last Oct 19 at 2.35pm.
Mohd Suhaimie, who was unrepresented, was charged under section 3(1) (a) of the Child Act 2001, which carries a maximum fine of RM20,000 or a jail term of 10 years or both, upon conviction.
According to the facts of the case, both victims were in the house on the day of the incident when the accused asked them, “Who finished the biscuits?”
When both children blamed each other, the accused became angry and took hot water from the pot and placed it in front of them while repeating his question on the biscuits.
When they still did not admit their fault, he pulled the left hand of his son, aged five, and put it in the hot water and slapped his face.
Mohd Suhaimie repeated the same act towards his eight-year-old daughter besides slapping her several times.
