A NEW house was officially handed over to Haji Narudin bin Haji Pungut under an assistance programme yesterday at Kampong Baong, Putat, Mukim Lumapas.
Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Acting Minister of Religious Affairs, who is also the vice-president of Brunei Islamic Religious Council, handed over the keys to the new house to Haji Narudin.
The certificate of completion of the house was also handed over by Haji Brahim bin Haji Ismail, Director of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.
The bungalow which was built at a cost of $59,000 has four bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, a toilet, a bathroom and a kitchen. The house assistance also included tree cutting, water supply piping and electrical wiring.
The $59,000 came from the Brunei Islamic Religious Council’s Zakat Fund Collection, while $10,000 was also allocated by Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. The Brunei-Muara District Office served as administrators and managers for the project.
Construction of the house began in early June 2014 and was completed in early November 2014. The company that carried out the construction was Syarikat Rohim Construction.
Haji Narudin bin Haji Pungut, aged 41, supports his wife and five children, four of whom are still schooling. His livelihood depends on catching fish, which provides an uncertain income of $200 to $300 a month.
He also receives financial assistance of $200 a month, basic needs assistance of $455 a month and schoolchild assistance of $240 a month from the Brunei Islamic Religious Council.
He also received house rental assistance from January 2013 until December 2014 to pay for rent at the home of Suludin bin Haji Tuah, at No 7, Simpang 238, Kampong Baong, Putat.
It is hoped that the new house will ease the family’s burden.
Also present at the handover of the house were Awang Misle bin Haji Abdul Karim, Acting Brunei-Muara District Officer; YB Awang Haji Jumat bin Akim, Legislative Council Member and Village Head of Kampong Putat; Haji Abdul Wahab bin Haji Sapar, Acting Secretary of the Brunei Islamic Religious Council; Haji Bakar bin Mangsor, Penghulu of Mukim Lumapas; along with officers from the Brunei Islamic Religious Council, officers from Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and officers from the Brunei-Muara District Office.
