KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) – Umno must find the right approach and means to tackle problems faced by the people, including the young generation, to remain strong and relevant for the next General Election.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said Umno’s relevancy would also depend on the support of the young generation, especially so when there would be about three million young voters in 2018.
Muhyiddin who is also the Umno Deputy President said there was a need to ‘engage’ with the young generation before they become voters because they would have an influential role to play.
The Deputy Prime Minister said Umno cannot remain steadfast to old methods but instead draw action plans that can serve the right purpose, effective and efficient.
“Don’t wait until the election is near before finding ways because there has been rapid changes in the socio-economy and politics of the country. If the party’s leadership is not aware of take the necessary steps to address the mindset of the people, Umno will become rigid,” he said.
“Umno also need the ‘wow factor’ in efforts to remain in power after the 2018 General Election,” he said.
Muhyiddin who later opened the Subang Umno Division delegates meeting at the Rahman Putra Golf Club in Sungai Buloh said unity among Umno members was vital, especially in Selangor to strengthen its claim and wrest Selangor from the opposition.
“Our role and responsibility in Selangor is both difficult and challenging. But if we remain focused on regaining Selangor to restore our lost pride and image, it is not impossible,” he said.
