PUTRAJAYA (Bernama) – Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal yesterday said that Umno would continue adopting various approaches to lure more people to register as its members in a bid to strengthen the party.
He said this included several road shows carried out at the state level to meet potential members of Umno, including the young generation.
“I don’t have the exact figure, but the number of Umno memberships in several states has indeed been on the rise. Johor Umno, for example, has been aggressive in increasing their capacity and strength,” he told reporters after opening the Rural and Regional Development Ministry’s Innovation Day 2014 here yesterday.
Mohd Shafie, who is also the Rural and Regional Development Minister, said in order to register more members, the registration methods at the division and state levels had been coordinated and all party wings were encouraged to help Umno new members to also register as voters.
Meanwhile, he said Umno was always prepared to listen to the opinions of various quarters to improve the party.
In fact, he said even Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who is also party president, was active in Facebook and Twitter where he could learn about the people’s opinion.
