UNIVERSITI Brunei Darussalam (UBD) is set to welcome its new set of student intake for January 2015 at its Freshers’ Week to be held at the Chancellor Hall from December 27 to 31. The Freshers’ Week is an annual event organised by the Student Affairs Section with support from the Student Representatives Council and its volunteers.
The January intake is the second intake in the second semester in the academic year of 2014/2015. This year’s Freshers’ Week is expecting to welcome a total of 780 students to UBD.
Dedicated to welcoming its new GenNEXT intake and its graduate students, the Freshers’ Week offers a comfortable and informative atmosphere in which students can explore the diverse opportunities UBD has to offer by meeting new friends and faculty members. The week-long activities are also geared towards helping students choose the right course and modules to complete their four-year programme.
Activities at the Freshers’ Week include submission of registration forms, meeting with programme leaders, introduction to faculty members and Discovery Year programmes as well as a look at the extra-curricular activities available at UBD.
In addition, a campus tour lets students board a bus and go on a quick tour around the UBD campus.
Newcomers will also be briefed on UBD student conduct such as the dress code, no smoking policy, criminal policy as well as health and safety policy.
Religious activities are also planned for the Freshers’ Week including the Bicara Ulum Ad-Din, which features a motivational talk by an invited speaker to introduce Syariah Law among youth, where students’ roles and responsibilities in Islamic perspectives will be highlighted.
A mass Zohor prayer, organised by the UBD mosque, will also be held to mark the beginning of student life for the January 2015 intake.
The UBD Freshers’ Week will culminate at the Vice-Chancellor’s Special Address on January 5 at Chancellor’s Hall, when the new UBD students will officially begin their semester and studies at UBD.
